Network deploy AutoCAD profiles

August 1, 2006

Question

Is there a way to deploy and install new profiles and updates for all of my users without going to each machine?

Solution

Create the /p target reference in the users AutoCAD shortcut pointing to a specific network directory. Example:
  1. Right click on the AutoCAD 200x desktop shortcut and select properties.
  2. In the Target text box you should see: “C:Program FilesAutoCAD 2006acad.exe”
  3. Add a reference directing them with the default profile you want to control. “C:Program FilesAutoCAD 2006acad.exe” /p “X:CAD-PROFILES2006-Default.arg”

I’m the only one with write permissions to the folder and as a precaution I write protect by checking the read only option of the file properties in windows. Everyone uses this profile with the ability to export their own custom views and menu layouts using workspaces in 2006.
