Importing AutoCAD old style SHX fonts into Revit

April 19, 2008 Leave a Comment

By Allan, 18-April-2008

Applies To:

  • Revit Structure 2008. May apply to other versions.

Problem:

I have a lot of standard details drawn in AutoCAD with the ISO3098B.shx or ROMANS.shx fonts. But I am using the “true type font” Arial in Revit. Is there a quicker way of converting the SHX fonts to “true type fonts”.

Solution:

The good news is Revit has a simple way to map fonts. It works with either the import or link feature inside Revit and you don’t even have to edit the original AutoCAD files much.
  1. Open the shxfontmap.txt file. Often found at: C:Program FilesRevit Structure 2008Data
  2. Enter the SHX file a single TAB and the new font to map. Example ISO3098B.shx <TAB> Arial
  3. Save and Close

Revit Structure does not need to be restarted to make the mapping work. However if you have already imported the file, you will need to import it again.
