Welcome to the blog at draftsperson.net — the art of technical drawing. This site has been online since 2003, built on a collection of drafting notes, tutorials and AutoLISP lessons that began in 1999 — the oldest article here, an AutoLISP programming lesson, dates from August of that year. More than two decades on, it’s still doing exactly what it started with: real techniques, free tools, and honest opinions from the drawing board.
By the numbers
- Online since 2003 — with content collected since August 1999
- 492 articles across 26 categories
- 147 free AutoLISP routines — one of the largest free collections anywhere
- 68 articles on drafting standards — paper sizes, line weights, layer systems, symbols
- 54 Revit tutorials and 44 AutoCAD tutorials
Figures current as of July 2026.
Who writes this
This blog is written by YZ, a professional drafter with more than twenty years of experience in architectural, structural and civil drafting. YZ began collecting this material in 1999 and has published it here since 2003 — long before “content” was a business model, back when sharing what you knew was just what the CAD community did.
What you’ll find here
- Free AutoLISP routines — downloadable, tested, and used in real drawing offices
- Free AutoCAD hatch patterns for architectural and structural work
- Reference charts drafters actually pin above their desks: weld symbols, steel detailing, paper sizes
- Tutorials for AutoCAD, Revit and Civil 3D — written by someone who uses them for a living
- The new frontier: AI-assisted drafting, tested hands-on rather than hyped
How we work
Everything published here gets checked the way a drawing office checks a shop drawing: dimensions verified, standards named, sources cited. Newer articles carry a References section listing the pages their claims rest on.
The original
Plenty of scraped copies of this site’s charts and routines float around the web. If you found this material on a document-sharing site, it originated here. The library is free at the source — and always up to date at the source.
How the site is funded
Advertising and reader support keep the downloads free. If a routine here has saved you an afternoon, the Buy Me a Coffee link is the honour box.
